Slot Canyon
14" H X 24" W X 16" D
3 Dimensional Fiber Art
Slot canyon is a pop up this lies flat when closed and opens to a twisted right angle when opened. The pop up technique is a simple 90 degree gutter fold, repeated and varied to create the effect of the rock formations in the red rock slot canyons of SE Utah and SW Colorado.
Slot Canyon has been accepted into the SAQA "3D Expressions" exhibit which will be touring from June 2019 through December 2022. The work has sold.

Lizars' Swallowtails
11" X 14" Pen and Ink with Colored Pencil
This work is an homage to William Lizars, ( 1788-1859). Lizars was a print maker and portrait painter who later made plates for "British Butterflies" and Audubon's "The Birds of America". He specialized in colored insect portraits on monochrome inked backgrounds. This is my version of Lizars' style, portraying 5 species of swallowtail butterflies in various life stages.
This work, and Pica pungens shown on the home page of this website, will be displayed in the "Heaven and Haven" exhibit at the opening of the new visitor center at the Denver Botanic Gardens, 1000 York Street, Denver, Colorado. The exhibit open September 26, 2020.
